Basics

Every short drama app uses one simple model. What you watch are very short vertical episodes. The first few cost nothing. Later ones cost coins or a pass. That divide is the root of most confusion. Start with the five answers below.

What is a short drama app?

It delivers vertical video that is designed for phones. A series is split into many short episodes. Billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals are popular plot elements. Werewolf romances are likewise popular. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama lead the market. The format began in China as duanju.

How long does each episode run?

Most run one to two minutes. Productions in the West often aim for 60 to 100 seconds. Usually, a series has 20 to 100 episodes. For Married at reel short First Sight, ReelShort lists 90. Its hit Double Life series lists 60. A full series can run as long as a movie.

Why do episodes stop at cliffhangers?

That is usually the spot where free episodes end. According to ReelShort, its first 5 to 15 are usually free. Industry reporting gives a figure of 8 to 10. Peak tension is where the lock tends to land. The business model rests on that timing. It also ranks as a top viewer complaint.

Who are the owners of ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?

Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California owns ReelShort. Behind that studio is China’s COL Group. Running DramaBox is Singapore’s StoryMatrix, which is part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. Making My Drama is Holywater, founded in Kyiv in 2020. An equity stake went to Fox Entertainment in October 2025. In terms of launch dates, ReelShort came in 2022, and DramaBox in 2023.

Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?

Yes, but with limits. Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins are all offered on ReelShort’s website. Progress syncs with the app. Only the app offers free unlocks. My Drama has a dedicated Apple TV app. We came across no verified ReelShort TV app at all.

Cost

The most common questions are about money. The figures shown are US App Store prices as of September 2026. They vary by country, platform and promotion. Take every number as approximate. Always check the pricing screen first. This is what the listings show.

Is ReelShort actually free?

Partly, and the free portion is real. What people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want is the catch. You get the opening episodes free. The download is free. Later episodes need coins or a VIP pass. Ads and check-ins earn free coins.

How do coins work?

Episodes are unlocked with coins, the in-app currency. ReelShort’s blog puts an episode at roughly 60 coins. Its smallest pack is about $4.99 for 500 coins. Bigger packs come with extra coins. Two episodes unlock after one rewarded ad. A 7-day check-in streak earns 100+ coins.

Do coins expire?

The answer depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Coins you bought do not. My Drama works differently. Its terms say coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Stay active and spend reward coins first.

What does a weekly pass cost?

In the US, the common price is about $19.99 a week. That price appears on ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Some apps show cheaper plans. ShortMax’s listing shows $9.99, while GoodShort starts near $5.99. All these passes renew on their own. Forget for four weeks and you pay four times as much.

Are there any monthly or yearly plans?

They exist on some apps. ReelShort’s blog prices a yearly plan at about $199.99. The monthly price varies between pages. That makes the figure unconfirmed. DramaWave lists about $36.99 a month. ShortMax displays only weekly passes in the US.

Is it possible to watch without paying?

Yes, if you are patient. Each series’ free first episodes are the place to start. Rewarded ads unlock more. Maintain a daily check-in streak. On top of that, ReelShort runs official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. Combining all four gets you the most.

Subscriptions and Cancelling

Weekly passes do not stop renewing until you stop them. Many people do not expect that. Cancelling is fast once you know where. How you paid decides the place. Store purchases are cancelled in the store. The company handles purchases made on its website.

Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?

No, and plenty of people make this mistake. Removing an app does not end its subscription, according to Apple. Google makes the same point about uninstalling. The same warning appears in My Drama’s terms. The pass does not stop renewing until you cancel. Cancel first, delete afterward.

How do I cancel on an iPhone?

Open the Settings app to begin. At the top, tap your name. After that, select Subscriptions. Pick the short drama app from the list. Tap Cancel and then confirm it. Act a day before renewal to be safe.

How do I cancel on Android?

Begin by opening the Google Play Store app. Go to your Subscriptions list. Find the drama app there and select it. Tap Cancel, then follow the prompts. Do not forget that uninstalling cancels nothing. Check the list once more to confirm the change.

Can I cancel within the app?

Sometimes, but cancelling through the store is safer. An in-app option under About Subscription is described in ShortMax’s terms. Store buyers are directed to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google only control what they billed. If you bought on the website, reach out to the company. Screenshot each and every cancellation.

Why was I charged once a free trial ended?

Trial wording can be confusing. The developer of ShortMax admits that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people. According to its terms, passes renew 24 hours before expiry. The same price applies to the renewal. One day before any trial ends, cancel. Then check the store shows it cancelled.

Getting Refunds

Refunds come down to who took your money. Play charges are handled by Google. App Store charges are handled by Apple. Website charges go through the companies. None of these routes guarantees a refund. This table lays out each path.

Where the payment was made How to cancel Refund path Watch out for
iPhone (App Store) Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel Apple’s Report a Problem page Deleting the app won’t cancel
Android (Google Play) Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel Google within 48 hours, then the developer Uninstalling won’t cancel
Website Your account or support at the app company Only the app company Frequently non-refundable, per My Drama’s terms

How can I get an Apple refund?

Start at Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that paid. Pick the charge and explain briefly. Within 24 to 48 hours, Apple usually replies. It is Apple that decides, not the app maker. Also cancel the pass, or it renews.

How do refunds work on Google Play?

What matters most here is timing. Within 48 hours of buying, Google says you may get a refund. Make the request directly through Google Play. After that window passes, contact the developer. ReelShort users are pointed to Profile, then Feedback. When a renewal surprises you, act fast.

What about purchases made on a website?

The app company handles those. Apple and Google cannot help with those. Web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires, according to My Drama’s terms. Its terms grant EU and UK users a 14-day withdrawal right. Each other company sets its own rules. Read the terms before you pay online.

Can I get a refund for unused coins?

Usually not, and the terms confirm it. My Drama’s terms call coin purchases final. Unless its own fault makes a product unusable, ShortMax refuses refunds. With accidental buys, a store request may help. Until a series grabs you, stick to the smallest coin pack. Mistakes then cost less.

Safety and Copycat Apps

Here, name confusion is everywhere. Misspelled names lead to minor unrelated apps. A few downloads are unsafe. Big brands get copied by some sites. Using the real names protects your money. Real and fake are sorted out in these answers.

Is Real Short an actual app?

No, not as far as we could find. Real Short is just a misspelling of ReelShort. So are “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and likely “shot shorts” too. The real name is one word. The seller shown on the App Store is New Leaf Publishing. Before downloading, check that.

What are the ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV apps?

All three are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, which people find via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. It is not linked to ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, often typed “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an app for Android TV that has 10K+ installs. Most searchers probably mean GoodShort.

Are ShortTV and ShortMax one and the same?

Very likely, but unconfirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Its website sends visitors on to ShortTV’s site. Both apps launched in September 2023. We could not find an official rename announcement. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also surface unrelated apps.

Are mod APKs and coin generators safe to use?

No, and none of them is official. Mod APKs are altered copies of apps from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators, too, are unofficial. There is no way for you to verify what they do. Stick to the official stores and websites.

Why does ReelShort have a low rating on Trustpilot?

ReelShort’s Trustpilot page displays 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. A frequent complaint is being charged after cancelling. Weekly auto-renewals are often mentioned. Others complain about coin prices and refused refunds. Any review site mirrors the people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check, not a verdict.
